Open Letter : System Of a Down

To System of a Down,

Your presence is as constant in my life as I am a part of this calamitous race you talk about.

You have made sure that I never felt alone on all those lonely walks; introspecting on my own vile nature as well as the environment it had been nurtured in. No, you’d stand there on the stage of my world, inhaling dirt-laden air while exhaling out every truth I wasn’t ready to manifest yet. I’d be Hypnotized. Sitting idle in my room I’d stare at the rustling leaves so hard that my vision blurred, often losing myself in the sultry mirage my mind was conjuring up. Just then you’d begin to growl, lending a tangibility to my emotions so my confused heart could finally grasp onto something.

You’re so constant in my life, that I can’t tell if it’s you who voices my innermost thoughts or I who gets influenced by your cry for the callous to think. You’re like every picture I have ever been unable to capture the sunlight in – frustrating, yet one of the most liberating habits I’ve ever acquired.

In the backdrop of IEAIAIO you drum ground realities that resonate with the thumping of troubled minds. In the crescendo of Soldier Side you blanket the hours of fine-tuning put in just to be heard. Maybe this is how art revolutionises: in a world not ready to listen, it creates vibrations that make one’s blood pump

System Of a Down is an Armenian heavy-metal band that was formed in 1994.
